Sound – This week we engaged both the senses of sight *and* sound, in order to help the viewer *feel*.
On a recent trip to Dublin, we toured the Christ Church Cathedral. As we walked in, we heard the welcoming sound of the church choir warming up to lead the joyful sounds of singing in church.
Using my sense of vision to capture the sense of sound, I tried to shoot the scene to match the composition and light to the mood of the sound. To me, the warm colors of the church that were bathed in sunlight that morning conveyed a happy and welcoming scene. And the contrasting red robes of the choir conveyed bright happiness.
Instead of photographing only the choir for this challenge of “sound”, I included a large part of the surroundings, portraying a soon-to-be-filled church, just preparing to be filled with this joyful sound.
